THE GROOT (formerly known as Rassasy by Barcelos) is a South African cuisine based restaurant located in busy and happening area of Whitefield, Bangalore. The objective of the project was to design a bar-restaurant to reflect British colonial style while creating cosy and lively corners for any kind of person or a group to unwind. The sequence of spaces open up to the indoor seating, the bar counter, leading to the outdoor seating area.
Our foremost thought is to create a loud statement which is peculiar to this location, hence, the walls are cladded with exposed bricks and the façade wall is decked up with a vintage tower clock.
In the indoors, the seating arrangement frames the area while being separated with reinforced glass blocks. By the side of the tables, there are glass stained windows and above the table are suspended wooden hanging that we have designed specifically for this site. Accented lighting, meshed ceiling panels and the handmade patterned tile flooring are few other elements which give a palatial effect to the interiors. The idea was to ensure the restaurant territory had a zest of expression hence the plan was proposed with a blend of modern materials and furniture with the contemplation of the colonial period.
One cannot but notice the royal green palate of the bar counter and the wooden glass door which appear to be visually distinctive while zoning the room. The open area of the restaurant extends the interiors while ensure good air circulation and proper ventilation. We were keen on creating an elegant yet a relaxed outdoorsy atmosphere amongst busy urban neighbourhood by maximizing the greenery around the deck, which also happened to be the preferred choice of sitting by the crowd as the deck is covered by a retractable roof so that one can enjoy the Bangalore weather to the fullest.
